Ravenel’s sister, Myla, is kidnapped and placed in a highly illegal museum. To get her back, Ravenel will have to work with some rather unusual people: an artificer who isn’t affected by shadow beasts, an herbologist who always has dirt in her pockets, and Damien, the merchant turned spy who intentionally goes out of his way to humiliate Ravenel. Gaining support to rescue Myla might be possible with time, but Ravenel is in a rush. His sister has a rare disease that could flare up at any moment. If her captors discover the sickness, they will get rid of her.
